Brun

Nøgne Ø Brun is an unfiltered Belgian type ale that really fooled me and many others, could have sworn at this was a Brown Ale style of beer. Brun has some nice fruitiness in the taste and is really well balanced against the malt sweetness of this brew. Red-brown in appearance with a thick off-white head. Aroma of mild Belgian yeast, malt, fruit, banana and biscuit, quite a roasted malt character which is complimented by the mix of spice and nuts. The taste has some caramel, dark fruits and nuts. All in all this beer has a mild bitterness to it both in the middle and in the after-taste, slight burnt nutty finish.

I still classify this as a brown ale and alongside the 2 others from the Nøgne stables, this one comes in at second place with Imperial Brown Ale leading the pack and Brown Ale bringing up the rear. There is something about Nøgne Ø Brun that I really like, it probably is the alcohol level at 6% being just right fora beer of this style plus the generous amounts of sweetness from the malt and intruding Belgian spices that makes it a favourite of mine.
