Holy Smoke

Nøgne Ø Holy Smoke was one of 2 new beers released at Patrick’s pub in Kristiansand the night of the NøgneØ Christmas beer tasting party. Really like the label on this bottle, Kjetilsmoking a cigar with the smoke only appearing in the logo, guess the name hintsat a halo and this is where the holy comes in. Holy Smoke is a 6% German-stylerauchbier brewed in the Bamberg tradition. It won the Norwegian home-brewer's championship 2011 and was created by Erlann Eldorsen, a prolific home-brewer.

Dark brown in colour with a very small beige head, was expecting a really smoky beer but this was not to be the case. It had a mild smokiness to it with some malt and roasted caramel aromas. Light body, a bit thin and it had some sweetness and light smoke character. Not my ideal Nøgne Ø beer by any means, many were disappointed in its lack of smokiness, I personally thought it was just enough but expect a more heavier body with more balance between aroma and taste.
