Jolly Pumpkin Stone Special Holiday Ale

Nøgne Ø Special Holiday Ale is a collaboration brew between Nøgne Ø, Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales (Michigan) and Stone Brewing (CA). First brewed in San Diego 2008, the recipe is the same every year with different brew locations. As is usually the case with seasonal collaboration brews, the different parties like to include some local ingredients in the brew and that is certainly the case here.

Very dark brown in colour with a nice large latte creamy head. Aromas of ginger, cinnamon, all spice, roasted malt, molasses, and nuttiness. Did get the sage and this beer really smelled like a mix of Christmas cake, Turkey stuffing (common one is sage & onion) and ginger biscuits. Taste had tons of cinnamon, clove, all spice, ginger, and nuttiness in the front, which leads on to strong notes of toffee, caramel, and molasses on the back. Big backbone notes of roasted malt, caramel, and molasses with spices after the finish. The medium body and balanced spice hide the alcohol and makes this one easy going. No alcohol noticed in the taste and a slight warming after the finish. An excellent winter warmer, definitely the best one I have had yet.
