Strandhogg

Nøgne Ø Strandhogg is 1 of 4 Summer session beers released Summer 2015 by Nøgne Ø and this one was brewed by Rune Karlsen and is of type gose. This beer is brewed with wheat and pilsner malt, blackberries and sea salt.

Blueberry/Blackberry smoothie in appearance with a large light pink head. The aroma was of sour berries, yoghurt, wheat and touches of yeast. This was a very easy to drink, had to ask myself is this even a beer?  Tasted a bit salty and i guess this is ok for this style of beer and some more un-ripened berries like you get in those fruit of the forest drinks. Some tartness but also a little milkiness like one gets in a milk stout from lactose, but this must be from the wheat. All in all this was a very strange beer that I liked but was also thinking i was drinking a fruit smoothie than a beer. It had a nice salty acid berry finish that was a touch dry, for a Summer beer this would be a very refreshing one to have cold.
