Dragonwort Stout

Nøgne Ø Dragonwort stout is an Imperial Stout coming in at 14%. Brewed with 1 kilogram of malt per liter, 48 hours cooked and 2 years of aging in casks of Armagnac. This beer has been aged for 22 months in barrels, brewed with both barley, wheat and rye malts. In addition, it is seasoned with caraway, anise and star anise but the main spice in beer is however tarragon, and it is also from this spice beer has its name.

Jet black color with quite a large light brown head on this beer which is not usual for such a high alcohol beer. Very boozy aroma of dark chocolate, red berries, licorice, anis and vanilla. Not getting any armagnac tones but more like brandy notes. Lots of dark malts and rye coming through.

The taste was similar to the aroma, but with such high abv this was a real sipper. Warming and full-bodied there are many layers of flavor to this beer, dark malts, coffee, spirit like characters similar to brandy or cognac. Touches of port wine i am getting but still think the alcohol takes away from the flavor profile a lot. Just a few sips and that is all i want to taste, nice to have in a glass though smelling its deep aroma as it develops. Not a favourite of mine but as always, happy that i have tried it.
