Super Stuck Mash Pumpkin Ale

Nøgne Ø Super Stuck Mash Pumpkin Ale is a 7% spiced ale brewed obviously with pumpkin and the first ever pumpkin ale to come out of Norway. Had this on draft at Patricks in Kristiansand and I was also the first one to try this beer, yippie. This beer was also available at the Seattle Pumpkin Beer Festival this year that was hosted by Elysian Brewing Company. I asked Kjetil at the Christmas beer launch if the pumpkins were local but he was not sure of their origin. The name of this beer came from the trouble that the pumpkin caused during the mash, with 25% pumpkin pure, 30% malted rye & 10% rolled oats the mash got blocked up and had to be bucketed out.

Appearance was hazy orange to brown with a nice orangy white head. Aroma had some malt and caramel in it, was expecting this beer to be sweeter and more spicy but this was not the case. My only other pumpkin beer reference is a legend in this category, Southern Tier Pumking so this Nøgne brew had a lot to live up too. Did not get much pumpkin on the nose, some floral hops with a medium body to this beer with some sweetness, light spices, caramel and with a bitter finish.Unfortunately I was not too impressed with this beer, would have liked more spices and sweetness and let of the hops in it, either way always nice to try new beer and styles and one cannot like them all, even if we are talking about Nøgne beers here.
